A treacherous plot to unleash terror on Kebbi State has been laid bare, exposing a chilling conspiracy masterminded by former House of Representatives member Muhammad Shehu Koko and backed by former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN).

Koko, notorious for his longstanding ties to bandits and terrorists, allegedly orchestrated the importation of violent criminals into Kebbi to destabilise Governor Nasir Idris’s administration, with Malami funnelling $1 million to fuel the chaos.

As security agencies close in on Koko, Malami’s desperate attempts to divert attention from his embattled ally have collapsed, leaving Kebbi’s innocent residents as the true victims, haunted by the fear of renewed violence in their peaceful state.

Koko, a disgraced ex-lawmaker for Koko/Maiyama Federal Constituency, is infamous for working closely with bandits and terrorists, a reputation that predates his political career.

Sources reveal that days before the plot’s execution in early September 2025, Koko travelled to Zamfara’s dense forests, holding clandestine meetings with notorious bandit leaders and suspected Lakurawa terrorists.

These meetings, held in remote hideouts near the Kebbi-Zamfara border, were orchestrated to recruit an army of criminals to wreak havoc in Kebbi, aiming to undermine Governor Idris’s security achievements and boost Koko’s flagging relevance in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after his suspension from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in May 2025 for anti-party activities and corruption charges.

The conspiracy took a darker turn with Malami’s involvement, as the former AGF (2015–2023) allegedly provided Koko with $1 million to bankroll the bandits and terrorists, with explicit instructions to “resume work” in Kebbi by launching attacks to create panic and discredit Idris’s governance.

Malami, who defected to the ADC alongside Koko in July, saw the scheme as a stepping stone for his 2027 gubernatorial ambitions.

However, Koko’s greed unravelled the plan. According to a former ally who was part of the plot but later opted out, Koko pocketed most of the funds, releasing only $100,000 to the bandits with a promise of more “once they resumed work in Kebbi.”

This betrayal infuriated his ally, who abandoned the scheme and leaked details to authorities, blowing the lid off Koko’s treachery.

Malami’s frantic efforts to shield Koko from scrutiny have taken center stage as the main issue, with the former AGF launching a desperate campaign to divert attention from his ally’s crimes.

On September 10, the ex-AGF filed a petition to the National Security Adviser, Inspector General of Police, DSS, and other agencies, falsely accusing Governor Idris of importing “foreign mercenaries” and arming terrorists.

This audacious attempt to frame Idris was a smokescreen to deflect from Koko, who is now under intense investigation by security agencies for his bandit connections and the misappropriated $1 million.

Three sources have come forward with explosive testimonies to indict Koko and Malami. A repentant bandit, who attended the Zamfara forest meetings, confessed: “Koko came to us in the bush, promising big money to attack Kebbi towns.

"He said Malami gave him $1 million, but he only gave us $100,000, saying we’d get more after we started trouble. I backed out when I saw he was cheating us and using Kebbi’s people as pawns.

"Those families don’t deserve this fear—it’s all Koko’s greed.”

A security operative in Kebbi, speaking anonymously added: “Koko’s notorious for running with bandits—he’s been their political fixer for years.

As the Kebbi State Police Command and DSS deepen their investigation, calls for Koko and Malami’s arrest for terrorism financing and treason are deafening.
