Ex-Ogun Commissioner, Waliu Taiwo Felicitates With Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun On His 60th Birthday, First Anniversary In Office

Governor (Prince) Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has been described as a reformer, a transformer and a builder as he celebrates his first anniversary as the 5th Executive Governor of the state on May 29th, 2020, which coincides with his 60th birthday.

In his congratulatory message to the Governor for the double celebration, a two-term former commissioner for works in Ogun State under former governor Gbenga Daniel, Hon. Waliu Taiwo said that the two events are worthy of celebration.

Taiwo, an apex leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State said in a statement, which he personally signed that the state is lucky to have Prince Dapo Abiodun as the Governor at this critical time.

While congratulating the Governor for joining the sexagenarian group and for his first year in office, Waliu said that Abiodun has come to put things right in Ogun State and change the fortune of the South West State for the better with his people-oriented programmes in the last one year.

Taiwo said that these have endeared the Governor into the hearts of the people of the state.

Waliu Taiwo saluted the Governor for the successful completion of Ikola/Navy-Osi Ota Road, Ado-Odo/Ota LGA; (F) Raypower Road, Ado-odo/Ota LGA.

The former commissioner thanked Prince Dapo Abiodun for constructing these access roads to Lagos, saying that the road have become major link roads for the people of Ota who have businesses in Lagos.

The politician however, said that the Ota people still have major link roads that he believed the governor will give attention to in his second year in office.

He also wanted the governor to focus on low cost housing initiatives in the local government.

“I am glad to felicitate with our dear Governor in Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun on his birthday today May 29th and first anniversary in office as our Governor.

“You have really worked hard within one year to restore the lost glory of our dear state. Your achievements are there for everybody to see and it is noteworthy that you touched every sector of the state within 12 months.

“The people of Ota are grateful to you for what you have done for them so far and we believe that more will come in the coming years.

“My wish is that you will celebrate more glorious and fruitful years on the planet earth and succeed, where your predecessors failed as Governors and build on whatever they achieved, when they were in office,” the statement read.

Waliu Taiwo added that within a year after being sworn into office, the drive and the determination that took Abiodun into office is bringing transformation to Ogun State.

He said further that the five-year Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) developed by the governor and his team is a comprehensive effort that is designed to propel the state into a high-income one that is both inclusive and sustainable.

Taiwo emphasised that the current COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the fact that “government alone cannot do it.”

He however, saluted the Governor for the way he has been battling the pandemic and all the strategies he has adopted to reduce the spread of the disease in Ogun State.

“As Governor Dapo Abiodun moves to the second year, my prayer is that God will give him more grace and wisdom to succeed and take Ogun State to the next level.

“The last one year has proven that we have a man that is capable of doing the job and achieving more as Governor. What he needs is our support and encouragement and without any doubt, he will achieve all his desires,” he said.

He then enjoined all the people of Ogun State to continue to support Governor Dapo Abiodun in his transformational agenda and see all the methods being adopted by the Governor to fight the dreaded COVID-19 as the best way to eliminate the disease in the state.

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, has set aside its earlier ex-parte order authorizing the arrest, remand, and “wanted” declaration of Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, also known as Hammed Ajiran. The development follows the earlier declaration of Akanbi as wanted for alleged multiple murder by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Olorundare Jimoh, on February 19, 2026. However, in a ruling delivered today, Magistrate L.A. Owolabi of Magistrate Court 3 nullified the ex-parte order initially granted on February 16, 2026. In his decision, Magistrate Owolabi held that the order was obtained through the concealment of material facts. The court specifically noted that the counsel who filed and argued the application, Nosa Watson Uhumwangho, was under suspension by the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee at the time and therefore lacked the right of audience before the court. The ruling sparked jubilation among members of the youth wing of the Ojomu royal family, who...
