Twenty-one pro-democracy organizations have petitioned the Nigerian Senate, accusing a former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel of plotting to destabilise the state. The groups said Daniel, who is the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District is creating tension in the Gateway State by his incessant attacks on the state government and Governor Dapo Abiodun. Speaking on behalf of the groups after submitting the petition in Abuja on Friday, Comrade Johnson Okuwatobi said the Senate must call Otunba Daniel to order.   The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Dr Philip Agbese, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu's removal of fuel subsidy is in their best interest.  Agbese, the member representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, spoke to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.  The lawmaker admitted that fuel subsidy has been a part of the nation since the 1970s, with the government routinely selling petrol to citizens at below cost to minimize the impact of rising global oil prices.  However, he noted that the outlay of subsidizing petrol has ballooned over time, adding that the regime has made a few richer.  Agbese said that available figures showed that the Buhari administration (2015 -2023) paid a subsidy of over N11.4 trillion, more than what the government spent on education, health, and infrastructure during the period under review. Residents of Ward H in Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, Ward D in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki LCDA in Lagos State have expressed concern over the inability of the Lagos State Independent National Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct bye-elections into these wards in the affected local government and LCDAs after the death of the councillors representing the wards. The late councilors were elected in 2021 and their tenures ought to end in 2025. Names of deceased councillors were given as Mulikat  Toyin Bamgboye from Ward H in Lagos Mainland LGA, who died on January 2, 2022, Mr Disu Kamorudeen Babatunde from Ward D in Apapa Iganmu LCDA, who died on December 29, 2022, and Yinusa Sulaiman Olawale from Ward C1, Ibeju Lekki LCDA, who died on May  11, 2022. The presidential election planned for February in the military-ruled West African state of Mali has to be postponed “for technical reasons”, the transitional government announced on Monday. The junta cited the updating of the electoral roll and problems with a census database following a dispute with the operating company as reasons. This is another fulfillment of Primate Ayodele’s prophecy which he shared last year in a popular newspaper. The Plateau state governorship election tribunal has affirmed the candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Caleb Mutfwang as the duly elected governor of the state but it didn’t come like a walk in the park. Since the tribunal started sitting in the state, there seems to be a wave of sacks among PDP lawmakers as the court sacked seven of them for party structure issues and declared APC candidates that came second as rightful winners of the elections. Many had expected that Caleb Mutfwang would be sacked by the court too due to the party structure issues that led to the sack of other PDP candidates but miraculously, he survived the heat. The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has conducted a comprehensive clean-up exercise at Itedo Community, Lekki Local Council Development Area, in partnership with Lekki Peninsula Environment Community, Crusader Sterling Pensions and Itedo Community Development  Association, promising to clamp down on filthy communities and residents. What is grace? This is a question that I have been battling with for a while. I have looked at some of the recent happenings in the country concerning some individuals, and one of them is the Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President.  Gbaja as he is fondly called  could pass for a man with nine lives. He has been around for a while. He has had his share of good, bad, and ugly times. He has been accused, and he has been commended. Interestingly, he kept his cool in all these, and grace continued to work for him.  I recall that in the 8th Assembly, he aspired to be the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He worked hard but didn't get it. He didn't despair. He was loyal and waited for his turn. And guess what? Grace turned up for him. Families who lost loved ones during the 2015 governorship election violence in Bayelsa State are coming together to demand justice and accountability for the brutal killings of their relatives.  This demand for justice comes in the aftermath of a similar demand, initiated by a Coalition of Pro-democracy organization that shed light on the atrocities committed during the election.  The Coalition had earlier demanded that the Bayelsa State and the Federal government immediate prosecute, person indicted to have been involved or found to have supported the violence, characterised the aftermath of the 2015 Governorship election in the State, including the then, candidate of the opposition party, Chief Timipre Sylva. The 2015 governorship election in Bayelsa State was marred by widespread violence, with lives lost due to political thuggery and lawlessness.
